Who We Are
Rooted in Culture. Driven by Love. United Across Two Continents.
NKA IBAN AKWA IBOM NY, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the social, economic, domestic, and spiritual welfare of Akwa Ibom women and children in New York and Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
Founded 1992
Our Story
NKA IBAN AKWA IBOM NY, Inc. was founded through a spirit of sisterhood, fellowship, and cultural pride. Our roots trace back to 1992, when a group of women from Akwa Ibom State gathered socially in New York. Inspired by their shared heritage and commitment to one another, they formed the Akwa Ibom State Women Association.
In 1998, the organization was reorganized and renamed NKA IBAN AKWA IBOM NY, establishing a stronger platform for community service, cultural preservation, and empowerment. What began as informal gatherings grew into a structured organization committed to sustainable change.
Today, we support women and families in need, preserve and celebrate Akwa Ibom culture, develop youth leadership, strengthen community relationships, and contribute to humanitarian and development projects in both the United States and Nigeria.
